Job description

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a Secondary school near Abergavenny who require a specialised Teaching assistant on a full time basis to work within their behaviour base. The role would require the candidate to support whole class and occasionally deal with challenging situations as they arise.


The school is a genuine Secondary School with 10+ pupils in Key Stages 3&4 who have either been permanently excluded from mainstream school or who are in danger of becoming so, because of social, emotional or behavioural difficulties.


There are two sites based in the school and includes a key stage 2 satellite behaviour unit. The setting provides part time and full time placements to pupils experiencing behavioural difficulties within their mainstream schools and aims to return pupils to mainstream placements wherever possible. Class sizes are small to allow time to focus on individual education plans and promote individual positive behaviour.


The ideal Teaching assistant would have;
* previous experience teaching young people with social, emotional and mental health needs
* strong behaviour management skills
* have sound knowledge of the Secondary National Curriculum
* have an up-to-date Team - Teach qualification (Not essential)
* have a DBS on the update service

The successful Teaching assistant will have a passion for promoting behavioural development in young people and must be able to act as a positive role model to the young people within this setting. You will need to be proactive, enthusiastic and have a determination to succeed.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay.
