Teaching Personnel are currently seeking to recruit both new and experienced Teaching Assistants who are passionate about working with children with Special Educational Needs for a school in Milton Keynes.

Located across two sites, this particular school deploys of a wide range of teaching strategies to engage and develop the progress of learners, who present with a range of learning difficulties and other additional needs such as Autism and Challenging Behaviour. The pupils at this school are taught in smaller class sizes and require an additional level of support to students in mainstream education.

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will have a passion for working with young people with additional needs, in particular those who may have received all manner of set-backs in and outside of education. You will provide support to the class teacher across the school.

No official experience or qualifications are needed, but this role would be suited to someone who has experience working with children or adults with complex behavioural difficulties. Having the Team Teach qualification is desired, though not essential.

Working as an SEN teaching assistant is an extremely rewarding and challenging role which may include working one to one, with small groups or with a whole class in support of the teacher. Ideally you will have strong behaviour management skills, good communication skills, be flexible and a good team player yet self-motivated enough to use your own initiative when necessary.

Your duties in this role would include:

  • Providing day to day classroom support to the children and assisting with pupil behaviour
  • Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and responding to individual needs
  • Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.

Key Skills Required:

  • Relevant experience/interest in working with children or adults within an SEN setting or with Autism
  • Have the confidence to address conflict and challenging behaviour
  • Be willing to work flexibly and constructively as part of a team
  • Engaging and interactive personality is a must
