An alternative education provider in Bradford are seeking a Learning Support Assistant on a full time basis in September 2019.

Our client provides full-time, temporary placements for up to 70 students with complex Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The setting is proud to hold Ofsted Outstanding status (February 2019) reflecting the commitment and expertise of staff in working with young people to overcome complex issues and difficult situations.

Our client aims to provide a supportive, consistent educational environment, promoting positive mental health alongside academic achievement - whilst also developing social skills, independence, self-motivation and respect for others.

As a Learning Support Assistant, your role will be to provide a personalised learning experience which will secure students' successful reintegration / transition into an appropriate educational provision, and in turn help equip them with the skills to achieve in their future.

You will work closely with a well established staff team made up of specialist teachers, Educational Psychologists and Counsellors. You will also be required to work in tandem with a therapeutic crisis intervention team, with an input from Child and Adolescent Mental Health services (CAMHS).

Your key duties will include:

  • Encouraging the inclusion of students by using positive behaviour management techniques
  • Modelling, within class, support strategies designed to encourage and develop appropriate behaviour in a variety of settings, i.e. with individuals and group/whole class settings
  • Modelling group based activities designed to develop students' problem-solving, listening and social skills.
  • Producing a variety of resource for student/school/class designed to support an Individual's Behaviour Programme and/or support whole school positive behaviour systems
  • Attending relevant meetings and in service training provided by the school
  • Consulting with parents regarding student support matters and responding to incidents of challenging behaviour
  • To assist the Deputy Student Support Manager with producing, implementing and evaluating behaviour support programmes

We are ideally seeking individuals with previous experience within PRU or Alternative Provision settings who have a sound understanding of meeting the Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs of young people. You will be patient, with the ability to adapt learning materials to meet specific needs. Additional training in areas such as Crisis Intervention (e.g. MAPA/Team Teach) would also be beneficial, although training can be provided.
