Teaching Personnel are working with a Special School in North Yorkshire who are seeking a Behaviour Specialist to join their social conduct team this term.

Our client is based in the historic town of Knaresborough, and caters for 110 pupils aged 4-19 with a range of additional learning needs including Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties; Speech, Language and Communication Needs, and Autism Spectrum Conditions. A large number of pupils also present with challenging behaviours resulting from Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

The successful applicant will join the Social Conduct Team, and will be responsible for supporting behaviour across the school. You will work with colleagues to provide a holistic approach in responding to challenging behaviour.  You will facilitate the development of positive relationships and partnerships working between school and home, resulting in a consistent approach to behaviour at home and school. It is essential that you possess excellent communication skills in order to liaise effectively with parents/carers, colleagues and young people throughout school.

Key responsibilities:

  • To provide an inclusive and personalised education for all pupils, so that they learn to succeed as individuals
  • To respond to incidents of challenging behaviour, playing a key role in the de-escalation and recovery of pupils in crisis
  • To support families in recognising the key role they have to play in pupils’ learning and success
  • To provide a safe, secure and welcoming learning environment. Develop an atmosphere of kindness and mutual respect, which builds self-esteem, values diversity and promotes healthy lifestyles
  • To develop an understanding and awareness of personal responsibility; encouraging participation in school and the wider community to ensure young people make a positive and valued contribution
  • To enable pupils to make a successful transition to their next stage of education or employment

We are seeking an individual who is confident in managing pupil behaviour and who is experienced in supporting pupils who are in crisis. Additional training in Team Teach is beneficial, although training can be provided if needed.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later
