Sensory Support Worker
Job description

We are looking to recruit candidates with experience in sensory support and therapies to work with children at our Ofsted 'Outstanding' school, which cares for children with complex, profound and multiple special needs.
Alongside their classes and activities, children will attend a range of personal therapy sessions to suit their conditions, such as speech and language therapy for those with speech impediments or who are non verbal, and physio or hydrotherapy for those with physical disabilities. Alongside this are occupational therapy sessions designed for each student to asses their needs for progress, to understand what needs to be done to help them reach their goal of being as independent as possible and can include things like fine motor skills therapy and feeding and drinking.
These sessions are designed to be a relaxed and positive experience for the students, and can include 1:1 sessions, group sessions and class sessions. As a sensory support worker, your role is to assist therapists and staff with these sessions, by supporting the student with their comfort and needs so that the therapists can focus on their purpose.
This may include moving and handling, personal care and behaviour management therefore training or experience in these areas is preferred.
The ideal candidate for this role would be someone who is patient and caring towards the student and ensures their comfort and safety is first and foremost. You must have exceptional attention to detail, be conscientious and mindful of the student and their situation, and be able to notice any behaviours and actions which may be a cause for concern.
As a support worker it is imperative that you report any issues to your supervisor which may affect the safety and well-being of the child, which should at all times be your highest priority.
We are open to applications with all types of experience if you believe it is relevant, however all candidates MUST have an enhanced DBS check which is registered to the update service. If you do not already have a DBS, Teaching Personnel can advise on how to obtain one.
