Here at Teaching Personnel, I am working very closely with a school in Portsmouth who are looking to appoint an SEN Learning Assistant who will play a key role in individual and small group support for identified children with special educational needs. The successful individual will support the Class Teacher in the teaching and welfare of the assigned individual, ensuring they attain the targets set.

The school takes in children who are all statemented with SLD and some additional needs such as Autism and speech and language difficulties. This is a challenging, yet rewarding, environment where all learners have an equal opportunity to learn and work in a safe environment where staff work together to create a positive and warm, comfortable setting.

It is essential that the candidate for this role will have the ability to build a great relationship with both the children and teachers alike. Someone with previous experience of working in a busy school or care environment where team work and willingness to get involved is crucial to the role and also to the learning and development of the pupils within the school.

The ideal candidate will be:

• Able to stay calm and objective when presented with unusual or challenging behaviour.

• Enthusiastic and committed to working as part of a team, including working closely with outside agencies.

• Able to relate exceptionally well with children and to go that extra mile to help them achieve.
