A children's residential care and education provider for autism, currently require a dedicated Learning Support Assistant/Teaching Assistant to join their team. The school is based in Barton upon Humber, and is within easy reach of Barton, Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Doncaster and Hull.
The school is a specialist service providing integrated residential care and education for children and young people aged 8 - 19 whose predominant need is associated with Autism, but who may also have additional complex needs and behaviours which challenge. They offer a person-centred approach to care and education, which is designed to help children and young people express their needs and wants and for them to become more independent. Based in Barton-upon-Humber, North Lincolnshire, the school is within easy reach of Scunthorpe, Grimsby, Doncaster and Hull.
Working in small class sizes, they deploy a wide range of teaching and learning strategies to engage and support the overall progress of our learners. As a Learning Support Assistant, you will have a passion for working with young people to help them achieve their full potential; you should also be confident in supporting challenging behaviour.
In brief, your day to day duties as a Learning Support Assistant would involve:
- Supporting the morning routine in the on-site Children's Home
- Working with the class teacher, assisting the children with their work and supporting appropriate pupil behaviour
- Establishing good relationships with pupils; acting as a role model and responding to individual needs
- Encouraging pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
- Preparing materials and resources to facilitate effective teaching and learning sessions
- Taking part in meetings, contributing to report-writing, Individual Behaviour Plans and other administrative tasks as necessary
- Supporting children and young people with personal care tasks as appropriate
Key Skills Required:
- Experience of working with children and/or adults who have an Autistic Spectrum Disorder and/or challenging behaviour
- Ideally, experience of working within an education/residential setting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- The resilience to work successfully in an environment that can be both physically and emotionally challenging
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to use ICT
- A willingness to take part in relevant training and development opportunities
