Behaviour/SEMH Learning Support Assistant

Job description

Are you a Teaching Assistant looking for supply work in the Portsmouth area? Do you a passion to work with SEN pupils?

Teaching Personnel work with a local Pupil Referral Unit in Portsmouth who are looking for qualified Teaching Assistants for supply cover on a regular basis. Pupils have been excluded from mainstream environments and therefore have various behavioural and SEMH needs.

The school offer integrated education and care for pupils aged 7 - 16 years and they have multiple sites that cater for different Key Stages.

The ideal candidate:

- Previous experience working with young children, and have had exposure to working with behavioural or SEMH needs

- Have a patient, nurturing disposition who will not be phased by challenging behaviour

- First Aid trained will be ideal

- Team Teach trained or experience of this in the past

- Have the ability to use their initiative

- Be able to multitask and have the flexibility to help in a variety of situations, with different ages and classes.

- Be happy to work in small groups and on a one to one basis.

This is a lovely school, with friendly staff and a happy environment. Getting involved with the pupils and staff from the get-go, and have a genuine interest in behavioural and SEMH needs is a must.

Those who are interested will be welcome to spend a trial day at the school, upon undergoing a vetting process. We have various other positions that come in regularly for a TA in SEN schools, so there is an opportunity to work at many schools in your area, both on day to day supply and long term placements.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
