Teaching Assistant (youth work) - Oldham

Job description

Full time position for an experienced youth worker in specialist school in Failsworth. A specialist school in Failsworth are looking to appoint a full-time teaching assistant (youth work) commencing as soon as possible. This is a full time position which will involve working 5 days per week until the end of the academic year July 2019.

The setting caters for pupils 11-16 who are being educated outside of mainstream schools for a variety of reasons which may include: social, emotional and mental health needs and pupils who display signs of challenging behaviour. The pupils who attend this setting are prone to aggressive outbursts so the successful youth worker will display high levels of emotional and physical resilience.

Ideally the youth worker will have experience of planning and delivering interventions which are designed to support the optimal development of pupils with challenging behaviour. The ideal youth worker will have experience of working with pupils who display signs of challenging behaviour and know to prevent situations reaching crisis point.

Due to the needs of the pupils the youth worker will have:

  • Experience working with pupils who display signs of challenging behaviour
  • An understanding of crisis prevention tactics
  • Team- Teach training (desirable Teaching Personnel can provide)
  • An awareness of how to cater for pupils with challenging behaviour and support them in achieving the optimal potential
