Teaching Personnel are working with a fantastic, welcoming primary school in Cambridge who are looking for a Play Therapist. Play Therapists help children make sense of difficult life experiences or complex psychological issues through the activity of play. Play is a child's natural way of communicating and with a play therapist they can explore various issues they might find difficult to express in other ways.

Working as a play therapist at this Cambridgeshire school would involve working on a 1:1 basis or in small groups with pupils who may have be in severe distress such as depression, anxiety or aggression as a result of; Neglect, brain development issues, domestic violence, family breakdown or bereavement

Your aim would be to assist children in improving the way they cope with any underlining issues as well as developing insight, enhancing emotional intelligence and improving confidence.

Your duties will include -

• Assessing children's needs
• Running therapy sessions
• Creating therapeutic relationships with a number of children
• Make use of toys and creative products such as puppets, playdough or music to tell stories and interact with the pupils.
• Develop symbolic communication with children.

You will need-

• Possess a qualification in Counselling, Play Therapy or a Creative Arts Therapy or be working towards one.
• Have at least one year's post qualifying experience of working with children and young people in a therapeutic capacity
• Have experience of working with primary aged environment.
• Have a good understanding of educational settings
• Be willing and able to deliver both individual and group work
