Welsh Nursery Assistant

Teaching Personnel are working alongisde a Primary School to recruit a fluent welsh teaching assistant to work on a part time basis in the nursery class as part of a job share. The position is part time and is set to begin as soon as possible. The ability to communicate through the medium of welsh is essential for this post. 

 The school

The school is on the outskirts of the city of Newport. There are over 200 pupils in the school. Welsh is the main teaching and learning and although very few come from welsh speaking backgrounds, all pupils are expected to be fluent in Welsh and English by the end of key stage 2. The school has 9 classes including one nursery class.

A small percentage of pupils are eligible for free school meals, which is below the national average.

The school was a ‘curriculum pioneer school’ which means it worked with the Welsh Government and other schools to develop a pilot of a new curriculum for Wales which was introduced last year.

 The role

The school are currently looking for a fluent welsh Teaching Assistant to work on a part time basis as part of a job share in the nursery class. In order to be successful, you must be able to communicate effectively through the medium of welsh. Previous experience is advantageous but not essential for this role.

If successful for this post, you will need to possess a CHILD ONLY DBS on the Update Service and be registered with the Education Workforce Council. Teaching Personnel can help with the process of getting all vetting checks done prior to starting. 

Duties and Responsibilities

-Working with children aged between 2-3 years old;

-Working between 8:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday;

-Provide personal progression and academic support by following the National Curriculum;

-Work collaboratively with colleagues to continue to meet the standards required for the children to progress;

-Support pupils to understand instructions, support independent learning and play and to promote the inclusion of all pupils;

-Share information about pupils with other staff, parents / carers, internal and external agencies, as appropriate and in line with school policies and procedures;

-Work inside and in the outside area on occassions.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
