Job description

The Head Teacher of an Ofsted graded ‘GOOD’ primary school in Chorley is seeking to appoint a specialist support assistant to provide one-to-one support to a child going into their Year 6 class who has autism.
The child is working at the expected standard for Year 6 and therefore does not require support with accessing the curriculum. The main purpose of the support is to be of assistance throughout the school day to ensure the child is kept safe and happy, including providing structure and routine, and managing and de-escalating any build-up of emotion or challenging behaviour.
The role is part-time (09:00 – 13:00, Mon-Fri) and is to start September 2021.
You will be welcomed by a supportive team of staff and school community. You will be provided with an opportunity to meet the pupil and school SENCo prior to your official start – the Head Teacher is keen for a quality handover to take place. Staff morale is high, and pupils behave well and care for each other.
The ideal candidate for this role is a practitioner with training and prior experience of supporting individuals who have autism (adults and/or children). This can be as a support worker or carer, or in an educational setting as a learning support assistant.
A relevant Level 2 qualification is essential. In order to be considered, you must also have prior experience of supporting individuals who have SEN, which has involved managing challenging behaviour.
If you would like to apply, and hold the qualifications and experience required, please click ‘Apply Now’ and uploaded your up-to-date CV or register online at https://register.teachingpersonnel.com/.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see teachingpersonnel.com/faqs for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
