Job description

Teaching Assistant – Secondary School, Salford for Students with Learning Difficulties

Are you passionate about supporting young people with additional needs? We’re working with a welcoming SEN secondary school in Salford that caters to students aged 11–16 with autism and moderate learning difficulties (MLD). Many of the pupils use alternative communication methods such as PECS, visual timetables, and AAC devices, so experience with (or an interest in learning about) these tools is a big plus.

This full-time, term-time role is ideal for someone who’s calm, adaptable, and genuinely cares about helping students reach their full potential. You’ll be supporting students one-to-one and in small groups, helping them access the curriculum in subjects like Maths, English, and Life Skills. You’ll also be helping them navigate the school day, regulate emotions, and develop communication and independence.

No two days are the same – one moment you could be helping a student complete a piece of work using visual prompts, the next you might be supporting them with movement breaks, transitions, or structured social time. You’ll work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to keep routines consistent and effective for the learners in your care.

We’re looking for someone with experience working with children or young people in any setting – education, youth work, care, etc. Knowledge of autism or SEN is ideal, but full training can be provided. If you’re patient, reliable, and ready to learn, we want to hear from you.

In return, Teaching Personnel offers weekly PAYE pay, access to free CPD courses, a dedicated consultant for ongoing support, and the chance to make a meaningful impact every single day.

If this sounds like your next role, apply with your CV and a member of the team will be in touch to discuss next steps!
