SEN Teaching Assistant - Supporting within Specialist Provisions
Possible locations: Bolton, Salford & Bury | Primary & Secondary Specialist Provisions | Permanent & Long-Term Opportunities

Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Teaching Personnel is seeking dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants for long-term and permanent roles in specialist schools across Bolton, Salford, and Bury. 

Specialist Settings Include:

  • Primary / Secondary Schools for Complex Needs: Supporting children with profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), physical disabilities, and complex medical needs.

  • Primary / Secondary Schools for Moderate Needs: Assisting students with moderate learning difficulties (MLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), and speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

  • Pupil Referral Units (PRUs): Working with students excluded from mainstream education who require intensive behavioural and emotional support.

  • Mental Health Referral Units: Supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) challenges.

  • Secure Units: Providing specialist support in custodial settings for young people with complex behavioural or emotional needs.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver personalised one-to-one or small group support tailored to individual pupil needs

  • Assist communication using PECS, Makaton, or other methods

  • Support sensory processing and behaviour management strategies

  • Help with personal care, mobility, and medical needs when required

  • Encourage independence, social skills, and emotional regulation

  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to implement personalised learning plans

  • Support pupils through transitions and daily activities

Qualifications & Experience:

  • No formal qualifications necessary, but relevant experience or a strong desire to work with SEN pupils is essential

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
