Are you someone with experience as a Teaching Assistant, and able to travel to Leeds (LS7)? If so, then this position to support learning in a Year 6 class for the next academic year may be the perfect role for you.
An Ofsted rated GOOD school in Leeds need an experienced TA in their Year 6 class for the entirety of next year, beginning in September. This is because they usually have one TA spread across both year 6 classes, as the school is 2-form entry. However, there are some children in this yeargroup in both classes who can be disruptive, and therefore the school feel it would be beneficial to have a TA placed full-time in both classes to improve their behaviour and concentration. The Year 6 teacher is very experienced in KS2 and has taught the same yeargroup in the school since 2014, and therefore would provide excellent support to any new member of staff in the class.
In regards to the class, behaviour is not especially extreme but can be loud and boisterous at times. There is one child with very mild autism who at times can become restless in whole class scenarios and may need more focused 1-2-1 attention so as not to interrupt the rest of the class. The school therefore need someone who can be relied upon to remain calm and further support the teaching of the class teacher by identifying when children may provide distractions, and intervening to prevent this from happening. Therefore it is vital that the candidate in question has experience in KS2 classes so they are used to building and nurturing relationships with children of this age. The school would also find it extremely valuable to have someone with experience of taking small groups of 5/6 at a time for some more focused intervention work. This would be very useful as the class teacher may then utilise the chosen TA to work with children who have weaknesses in specific areas, as well as the fact that the autistic child often works much better in smaller groups.
