Job description

Do you have a passion for making a difference in the lives of young people who need support outside of mainstream education? We are seeking a committed, creative, and resilient Alternative Provision Practitioner to join our team delivering bespoke learning and support to students across North Yorkshire.

About the Role

Working with pupils aged 11–16 who require tailored learning approaches, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, individualised sessions that build confidence, resilience, and core skills

  • Work 1:1 or in small groups, in community settings, schools, or at students’ homes

  • Collaborate with schools, families, and external agencies to create effective support plans

  • Monitor progress and adapt strategies to meet changing needs

  • Support the social, emotional, and mental health development of learners

About You

You will be someone who:

  • Has experience in education, youth work, mentoring, or special needs support

  • Is confident in managing challenging behaviour with empathy and consistency

  • Understands the barriers to learning faced by vulnerable or disengaged young people

  • Can think on your feet, stay calm under pressure, and build meaningful relationships

  • Holds a valid driving licence and has access to a vehicle (travel across North Yorkshire is essential)

Teaching qualifications are desirable but not essential – we welcome candidates with real-life experience, transferable skills, and a genuine passion for alternative education.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
