SEN Teaching Assistants (Special Educational Needs)
Job description
Special Needs Teaching Assistants – Hampshire Area
(Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough, Hook)
Do you enjoy helping children and young people reach their full potential? We’re looking for caring, reliable, and enthusiastic people to join a number of specialist schools across Hampshire as Special Needs Teaching Assistants (SEN TAs).
There are opportunities available in and around Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough, and Hook – and we’d love to hear from anyone passionate about making a real difference.
What You’ll Be Doing
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you’ll work closely with teachers and support staff to help pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop key life skills in a safe and supportive environment. Every day is different, and every achievement – big or small – matters.
Where You Could Work
You’ll have the chance to work in one of two main types of specialist settings:
SEN Schools
These schools support pupils with a range of learning needs, including autism, physical disabilities, communication difficulties, and complex medical needs.
Your role might include helping with learning activities, offering personal care, supporting communication and sensory needs, and working as part of a team that helps each pupil progress at their own pace.
SEMH Schools
These settings focus on children and young people who find it difficult to manage emotions or behaviour in mainstream schools. Pupils may have ADHD, attachment needs, or anxiety-related challenges.
Here, you’ll focus on building trust, encouraging positive relationships, and helping pupils regulate their emotions and feel proud of what they achieve.
What You Need to Know
-
Full-time and part-time roles available
-
Usually term-time only
-
Training provided for suitable candidates
-
Pay varies by experience and setting
-
Locations: Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough, Hook
Who We’re Looking For

-
Care or support work
-
Health or social care
-
Youth work or mentoring
-
Supporting people with autism, learning disabilities, or behavioural needs
If you’re patient, resilient, and genuinely want to help young people thrive, we’d love to hear from you.

-
An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to get one)
-
The right to work in the UK
Finding the Right Fit
When you apply, you can let us know whether you’d prefer to work in an SEN school, an SEMH school, or if you’re open to both – we’ll do our best to match you with the right setting based on your experience and interests.
