Job description

Experienced SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support (KS1)
Location: Southampton
Start Date: ASAP or after October half-term
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (term-time only)
Pay: £90 – £95 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)

Are you an experienced and efficient SEN Teaching Assistant looking for your next rewarding role in Southampton?

Teaching Personnel are working closely with a welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary school in the Southampton area, who are looking to appoint a skilled SEN TA to support a child in Key Stage 1 on a 1:1 basis. This is a full-time role, with the potential to become long-term for the right candidate.

The school has a warm, community feel and is known for its strong support network, well-resourced classrooms, and commitment to providing a positive learning environment for every child. You’ll be joining a dedicated team of professionals who work collaboratively to ensure all pupils thrive, no matter their starting point.

The Role:

  • Working 1:1 with a child in KS1 with additional needs (including communication and regulation challenges)

  • Supporting with classroom activities, transitions, and targeted interventions

  • Adapting resources and strategies to meet the child’s individual learning plan

  • Building positive, trusting relationships to promote confidence and engagement

  • Liaising regularly with the SENCO, class teacher, and parents

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Has previous experience supporting children with special educational needs, ideally in a primary setting

  • Demonstrates strong behaviour management skills and a calm, consistent approach

  • Is patient, organised, and proactive in meeting the needs of individual learners

  • Has a good understanding of early years and KS1 curriculum

  • Works well as part of a team and communicates effectively with both staff and families

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
