We are working with a specialist provision within a supportive primary school in Cwmbran, currently seeking a 1:1 Teaching Assistant to work with a Key Stage 1 pupil who requires tailored support for emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD). This role is ideal for someone nurturing, consistent, and passionate about helping children overcome barriers to learning.

About the Role

You will provide one-to-one support to a pupil throughout the school day, helping them regulate emotions, engage with learning, and build positive routines. The child may struggle with transitions, social interaction, and focus, so a patient, steady, and encouraging presence is essential.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 support during lessons and school activities

  • Build a safe, trusting relationship with the pupil

  • Follow behaviour support strategies from the SENCO and external professionals

  • Use de-escalation and redirection techniques to manage challenging behaviours

  • Support learning tasks and emotional development

  • Work with teaching staff to promote a calm, inclusive environment

This is a highly rewarding role where you’ll help a child feel secure, understood, and capable.

✅ What We’re Looking For

We welcome candidates from a variety of backgrounds. Whether you have formal education experience or transferable skills from another sector, we’ll support the right person.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience supporting children with EBD, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or behavioural needs

  • Stay calm and consistent under pressure

  • Communicate clearly and build positive relationships

  • Be a team player who takes initiative

  • Understand safeguarding and the importance of inclusion

Backgrounds in teaching assistance, youth work, care, mentoring, or coaching are desirable, though not essential. Full training will be provided.
