The Role:
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the educational and emotional development of students with SEMH needs. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing individualized support and guidance to students with SEMH needs, both within the classroom and in pastoral settings.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that meet the diverse needs of students.
- Implementing behavior management strategies and interventions to support positive behavior and de-escalate challenging situations.
- Supporting students in developing coping strategies, social skills, and emotional resilience.
- Building positive and trusting relationships with students, families, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for students with SEMH needs.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of individualized support plans and risk assessments for students.
Requirements:
To excel in this role, you will need:
- Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs, preferably in a PRU or similar setting.
- A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Resilience, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
- A commitment to promoting inclusion, equality, and diversity within the school community.
