Position Overview: As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in delivering targeted support to primary-aged students, fostering their emotional resilience, and promoting positive mental health and well-being. Working collaboratively with our dedicated team of educators and specialists, you will provide individualized interventions, facilitate group activities, and offer pastoral care to ensure every child receives the support they need to flourish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one support and mentoring to students, addressing their social, emotional, and mental health concerns in a compassionate and empathetic manner.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), and external agencies to develop and implement personalized support plans tailored to each student's needs.
  • Deliver structured interventions and therapeutic activities aimed at enhancing students' emotional regulation, self-esteem, and social skills.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, maintaining detailed records and reports to track outcomes and inform future support strategies.
  • Act as a trusted confidant and advocate for students, advocating for their needs and facilitating communication between home and school as required.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive school culture through the delivery of assemblies, workshops, and awareness-raising initiatives focused on mental health and well-being.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people in a mental health or educational setting, particularly those with SEMH needs, is highly advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish trusting relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Knowledge of child development and understanding of the impact of social, emotional, and mental health difficulties on learning and behavior.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, demonstrate resilience, and effectively manage challenging situations with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Relevant qualifications in mental health, counseling, psychology, or education are desirable but not essential.
