Job description
SEMH Teacher – Permanent Position
Location: Thrapston
A highly reputable, award-winning group of special educational needs (SEN) schools is seeking a passionate and resilient SEMH Teacher to join the permanent teaching team at one of their specialist schools in Thrapston. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, supporting both their academic progress and emotional wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:

Plan, deliver, and adapt high-quality lessons to meet the diverse needs of pupils with SEMH requirements.

Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and personalised behaviour support strategies.

Monitor and assess pupil progress, adjusting approaches to achieve positive outcomes.

Work closely with teaching assistants, therapists, families, and external agencies to provide holistic support.
-
Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
-
Encourage pupils’ personal development, resilience, and social skills.
Requirements:
-
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

Proven experience teaching pupils with SEMH needs, ideally within a specialist or alternative provision setting.

Strong understanding of SEMH strategies, behaviour management techniques, and trauma-informed practice.

Ability to differentiate teaching to suit varied learning styles and abilities.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
-
Resilience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.

Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
