Job description

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

Are you a graduate thinking of a career in education?

Have you applied for a PGCE but would like to gain experience in schools before the course starts?

Or perhaps you would like to gain experience to help support a future PGCE application?

Teaching Personnel is excited to announce our ‘Future Teachers' opportunities, aimed at supporting individuals thinking about a career in education.

Teaching Personnel are currently working with a number of successful secondary schools throughout Newport, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent who are seeking graduates for a number of Teaching Assistant positions.

You will spend up to year working in a school to gain experience and help decide if this is the right career choice for you.

The roles available are for the next academic year starting in September 2021, however if you are available sooner there may be opportunities to join the school earlier to familiarise yourself with the school and team.

What is the ‘Future Teacher’ programme?

By joining the Future Teacher programme you will be placed into a school for a placement that can last up to a year, and this will be paid experience! You can earn between GBP10.20 - GBP12.50 an hour depending on your qualifications and experience.  The working hours for the placement will be weekdays, with school hours normally between 8.30am-3.30pm.

During the placement you will take on a full and active role in the school experiencing a number of roles and responsibilities such as Teaching Assistant, Cover Supervisor, Intervention Support and many more!  You will also have the opportunity to take on a small teaching timetable and taking part in classroom observations of lessons. You will have hands on experience of supporting students in your chosen specialist subject that will prepare you for the teacher training placements you will undertake on the PGCE.

As well as learning the basics of teaching, if you are into sports, music or any other extra curricular hobbies you may also have the opportunity to set up and run an extra-curricular club in the school!

Why join the ‘Future Teachers’ programme?

Teacher training can be very challenging at times, and PGCE drop out rates are high.  Teaching Personnel hope that by giving you paid experience in a school you will go into your PGCE so much more informed, with enhanced learning abilities and knowledge.

Whilst on the placement you will be supported by other members of staff in the school but also ongoing support from your own personal Teaching Personnel educational consultant.  You will also have access to many CPD programmes to help enhance your learning.

Not only are you gaining invaluable experience working within schools, but you are being paid to do so!

Requirements:

  • Strong academic background - educated to degree level (any specialism)
  • You will also be a highly motivated individual who is passionate about teaching
  • You must be available to work full time (Mondays-Fridays) in the school

Whilst previous experience working in schools isn't essential, you will need to demonstrate the ability to build professional relationships with both adults and students.  Experience working/volunteering with children in some capacity is desirable.

Teaching Personnel are seeking individuals who are positive, flexible, and charismatic and have a good use of initiative - managing a classroom and busy timetable can often mean you need to think on your feet! The ability to cope under pressure is also essential.

This is an opportunity not to be missed.

If you are interested please apply with a copy of your CV at the earliest opportunity.  Alternatively, please give the office a call on 01633 370 6733 and ask to speak with Jess Williams.

I look forward to hearing from you!
