Year 1 child requires 121 support due to special educational needs in mainstream primary school
- Experience working alongside children with special educational needs on a 1:1 basis is crucial and a necessity for this role; you must have experience of supporting children with Autism and particularly in the support of children with social and communication needs.
- Solid experience working in a school setting is required and preferably working on a 1:1 basis.
-A Level 2 or above qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools is a must and preferably you will hold a good level of English and Maths.
A school in the town of Accrington have approached Teaching Personnel in order to source and appoint a Teaching Assistant (L2, L3 or Degree trained) to work closely alongside a child with Autism and also be utilised as a general TA in the class. The child who requires support was working successfully with a support assistant before the Easter holidays and due to unforeseen circumstances the child requires new support.
The Head Teacher has stated that the general behaviour of the school is 'Very good with the odd hiccup'. Due to this she has said she would like to employ a practitioner with fantastic behaviour management. She has also mentioned that the school does hold a strong Christian faith which helps the children and their parents to work effectively with each other and the staff in school. The child is not yet diagnosed, nor does she have an EHCP, however the school are keen to support her additional learning and social needs. There are no behaviour issues with the child and so the Head teacher has specified that the successful practitioner will be one who is more nurturing as opposed to someone who is 'tough' with behaviour management. You may be expected to use a range of communication needs such as basic MAKATON and PECs. You will also be expected to build a good structure and routine using visual timetables to ensure the child can access all areas of the school and the Curriculum.
The salary is based on a 6 hour day position held Monday to Friday, and depending on experience, this could vary between £9-£10.50 per hour. Additional salary may increase depending on the interest of welfare.
