SEND LSA in Portsmouth
Secondary School location
We are recruiting for a unique opportunity for an accomplished SEND Learning Support Assistant to join a well established team in a busy thriving Portsmouth secondary school.
The school boasts a caring, friendly and inclusive place where all individuals, staff and students alike are encouraged to aspire to excellence. The SEND team work closely with subject teachers, the schools SENCO and in conjunction with adults and external services when required. The team are comprised of Learning Support Assistants who have a variety of specialist areas and experience. They are directed by the SENCO and LSA coordinator in accordance to the daily requirements of pupils with EHCP’s and classes that may require additional support. This shared approach helps students with SEN become well rounded pupils who can draw on advice, guidance and learning skills from a variety of staff who share ideas and successes to help guide pupils to achieve the most in their education.
Candidates would need the following skills to be successful:
The ability to break down learning barriers, appropriate communication and listening skills, ability to adapt and maintain engagement, maintain clear boundaries, support children to self regulate their own behaviour and have a good understanding of a variety of SEN requirements.
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with experience of or interest in working with children with special needs. The successful candidate will work flexibly and creatively with focused objectives to ensure that the child they support makes good progress in their specific target areas and across all areas of development. They will have excellent communication skills and the ability to make work fun and engaging. They will predominantly carry out work in the classroom environment, but also utilise individual intervention when necessary.
Applicants must have English and maths to GCSE level

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
