Celebrating National Teaching Assistants’ Day 2025: Making Every Page Count

Date posted : 26 September 2025

Today, we come together to mark National Teaching Assistants’ Day, a celebration of the incredible work that teaching assistants (TAs) do in schools across the country. This year’s theme, “Read Together, Grow Together, TAs Making Every Page Count,” highlights the vital role TAs play in supporting literacy, inspiring a love of reading, and helping children access the world of learning through books.

Teaching assistants are the unsung heroes of education. They build strong relationships with pupils, create inclusive classrooms, and provide essential support for children with additional needs. Their dedication, creativity, and care have a lasting impact not just on learning outcomes but on pupils’ confidence, wellbeing, and futures.

As part of today’s celebrations, we’re delighted to announce the winners of this year’s National Teaching Assistants’ Awards. These outstanding individuals exemplify the very best of the profession and show the many ways TAs enrich school communities.

Overall Teaching Assistant of the Year

Helen Rawlinson – Hallam Primary School, Sheffield

Helen is transforming lives by giving children with complex communication needs a voice. She develops innovative AAC resources, works with charities and families, and never stops seeking new ways to support children to communicate and flourish. Her patience, creativity, and advocacy are life-changing for pupils and inspiring for the whole school community.

Primary Teaching Assistant of the Year

Luci Young – Christ’s College, Sunderland
Luci works with children on the SEND register, bringing both professional skill and personal empathy as a parent of children with autism. She creates bespoke learning opportunities, from carefully tailored phonics sessions to emotionally supportive reading interventions. Luci ensures every child feels understood, valued, and able to thrive. She is a trusted advocate for pupils, families, and colleagues alike.

Secondary Teaching Assistant of the Year
Liz Goldsborough – Ribblesdale High School, Clitheroe

Liz leads the Lexonik reading programme at Ribblesdale with extraordinary dedication. Through her leadership of Lexonik Leap and Advance, she has transformed pupils’ reading skills — with Year 7 pupils achieving an average reading age gain of over five years. Liz’s work ensures that no pupil is left behind, opening doors to the curriculum and changing lives.

SEN Teaching Assistant of the Year

Teighan Onyenji – Castledon School, Wickford
Teighan is described as the heart of her school. She combines compassion and professionalism to support pupils with a wide range of needs, always going above and beyond to create an inclusive, supportive environment. Her commitment to nurturing confidence and wellbeing has made a lasting impact on both students and staff.

Higher Level Teaching Assistant of the Year

Anum Saeed – Crowcroft Park Primary School, Manchester
Anum plays a pivotal role in her school, leading lessons across year groups, driving the computing curriculum, and running coding clubs and digital ambassador programmes. She fosters a love of reading in every child, supports parents with literacy and online safety, and even helps coordinate lunchtimes. Her energy, expertise, and commitment make her truly invaluable.

Thank you to all teaching assistants. These winners remind us of the incredible impact TAs have in schools every single day. But today is not only about them, it’s about celebrating every teaching assistant across the country who makes a difference in the lives of children and young people.

On National Teaching Assistants’ Day 2025, we say thank you to all TAs: for your passion, your resilience, and for making every page count.

Teaching Personnel helps schools connect with dedicated teaching assistants who make a real difference every day.
