Job description

Science Technician – Secondary School

We are looking to appoint a motivated, organised, and enthusiastic Science Technician to support a busy and successful Science Department within a secondary school setting.

This role is central to the delivery of engaging practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, ensuring laboratories are well-resourced, safe, and efficiently run. It is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to play an important role in supporting students’ learning.

Salary: £110pd - £130pd 
Contract: Term Time Only (38 weeks per year)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, set up, and clear away equipment and materials for science lessons

  • Provide practical support during lessons when required

  • Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring resources are clean, organised, and safe to use

  • Monitor and manage stock levels, including the safe storage and disposal of chemicals and equipment

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance

  • Support the development of practical experiments and demonstrations

  • Assist with administrative tasks within the Science Department

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Is well organised, reliable, and able to work independently

  • Has strong practical skills and an interest in science

  • Communicates effectively with both staff and students

  • Has an understanding of laboratory health and safety, or a willingness to learn

  • Can manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced school environment

Previous experience in a school or laboratory setting is desirable but not essential. Training, including COSHH and CLEAPSS guidance, will be provided for the right candidate.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
