Learning support assistant required in Leeds

  • Additional training in Team Teach and/or Moving and Handing opportunities
  • Excellent Pay Rates ranging from £55 - £65 per day

We are currently closely alongside a Specialist SEN School in Leeds, looking to appoint a Learning Support Assistant, to start in September with the opportunity to become a permanent member of staff.

The school caters for pupils aged 11-19 with a range of SEN (including Autistic Spectrum Conditions, Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties and Speech and Language Delay. You will be required to work across the school, supporting pupils with a wide range of additional needs. Your role will be to support pupils requiring additional support with communication, including those pupils with a mechanical system of communication and PECS. You may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN pupils) so training in either of these would be beneficial.

You will have strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate with families, carers and a multidisciplinary team of teaching staff, social workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists. You will be organised, patient and confident, with a sound understanding of meeting the social, emotional and mental health needs of young people with Special Educational Needs.

Experience or training in the following is also desirable:

· Picture Exchange Communication (PECS)

· Makaton or BSL (to any level)

· Autism Awareness/ASC Training

· Team Teach

· Moving and Handling
