Behaviour Support Assistant – SEMH School – Preston
Full-time | Temp to Perm | September start 

Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs?

A specialist SEMH school in the Preston area is seeking a dedicated and resilient behaviour support assistant to join their team. This is a full-time position, offered on a temp to perm basis through an established education agency.

About the role:

  • Support students aged 8–16 with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and additional learning needs.

  • Work closely with class teachers and pastoral staff to deliver tailored support, de-escalate behaviour, and promote positive relationships.

  • Assist in creating a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.

  • Provide 1:1 and small group interventions to help students regulate emotions and engage in their learning

What we are looking for:

  • Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs (in education, care, or youth work settings).

  • Confident in managing challenging behaviour using de-escalation strategies.

  • Calm, compassionate, and committed to helping every child reach their potential.

  • Team player with a flexible and proactive approach.

  • Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to apply.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
