 We have an exciting opportunity for teaching assistants WITH special needs experience starting in September 2020 in a Special Needs Primary School in Ealing with video interviews being conducted from July 1st 2020 due to school closures.

With the school’s new class set to open in September 2020 the school are looking for experienced teaching assistants who are confident in their skills to engage children with SEN. The school is well known throughout Ealing for their exceptional and innovative support of children with autism, severe learning difficulties and medical conditions and is rated Outstanding by Ofsted.

As a Teaching Assistant in this school in Ealing, you will be working in the school’s department for children with sensory and severe learning difficulties in a small class of up to 6 pupils. You will deliver pre-planned learning and development activities with children while recording progress and managing behaviour. You will be expected to work collaboratively with therapists, class teachers and special needs teaching assistants as well as children and parents.

Some children within the new class will be non-verbal with speech difficulties, have sensory sensitivity, have mobility difficulties, have difficulties following or understanding instructions. Due to this, experience, and willingness to support with personal care (toileting/nappy changing) or moving and handling (manual handling) will be ideal. However, this schools is well known for their amazing training provided to staff in personal care, manual handling, Makaton and learning approaches.

Having experience in special settings such as SEN schools, SEN units, playcentres, hospitals, care homes is highly beneficial but not essential. This is as some pupils will use resources used in these settings daily such as Makaton and PECS (picture flashcards).

This teaching assistant role is full-time Monday to Friday 8:30 – 4:00pm during school term time and requires consistency due to the needs of the children.

  • A dedicated personal consultant who will support with preparation, compliance and on-going guidance once in your new role 
  • We work closely with a large selection of local Special Need (SEN) schools and have established relationships with Senior Leadership Teams and Trusts

Requirements:

  • Must have experience as a teaching assistant
  • Must have experience supporting special needs whether children, young adults or adults
  • Must be available to start full-time in September 2020
  • Must be open to supporting children with personal care or moving and handling where required
  • Must have a positive attitude, pro-activity and be able to learn new skills quickly  
  • Having experience on placement in schools, units, hospitals, mental health or care with Special Needs (SEN) is highly beneficial  
  • Being open to continued development

The school is based local to Sudbury Hill and Greenford Station and is easily accessible on tube and train links across Ealing.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
