A Behaviour School in Lewisham is seeking an experienced Teaching Assistant for immediate start.

The right candidate will have vast experience in supporting classes of mixed special needs. The pupils are of a vulnerable and sometimes challenging nature, therefore the role can be very challenging. You will work closely with the teacher and other Teaching Assistants to encourage and motivate the pupils and help them to overcome any learning barriers, therefore strong communication skills are a must.

The school are seeking the following:

  • Experience, professional and voluntary, working with children with SEN.
  • A positive, encouraging attitude, with a naturally caring and supportive nature.
  • Immediate, full time, availability.
  • A DBS on the updated service, or be willing to complete one asap.
  • Have completed training relevant to this position (first aid, TEAM TEACH, Understanding SEMH)
  • Can provide excellent references from previous employment.

  • Primary school
  • Population : 50 children
  • 10 classes in the whole school
  • 10 children maximum per class
  • 1 teacher and 2 teaching assistants per class
  • Start 8:30am - finish 3:30pm (normal school day)

Pupils are known to have very challenging behaviour.

Depending on the severity of their SEN, pupils have therapy once a week to once a month.

The most challenging pupils have a mentor with them the whole day.

The school prioritises relationship building with the pupils above all.

The role is to work full time as a one-to-one intervention with a child with mental health and challenging behaviour.

Performing well in this role offers the possibility of securing a permanent position with the school.
