Experienced Teaching Assistant with core subject knowledge required for Pupil Referral Unit.
Teaching Personnel work closely with a group of schools providing a education access to students with specific behaviour needs, who are not accessing mainstream education.
The School
The school is based in Blackley, North Manchester and caters to students at KS3 age.
Students are referred with special needs and social, emotional and mental health issues, and generally struggle to maintain engagement in education. Behaviour challenges are high but not without reward as the students follow an adapted, vocational curriculum which is designed to bring out the best in their social and emotional development as well as educational.
The school requires a Teaching Assistant who is experienced in managing behaviour but also knowledgeable about the core subject curriculum.
The Role
As Teaching Assistant, you must have GCSE A-C in Maths and English and be familiar with the current secondary curriculum, as you will need to support students with these essential subjects.
Due to the behaviour needs and other challenges which may come up in the classroom, it is essential for teaching assistants to be able to support academically as well as with classroom management.
Requirements;
- GCSE A-C Maths and English
- Experience as Teaching Assistant (Classroom management, curriculum, behaviour management)
- Specific experience with SEN/SEMH
Other qualities which you may have could be;
- Team Teach Qualification
- Experience with Youth Work or similar
- Tutoring Experience
Please be aware that all successful applicants will be subject to experience and background checks.
Working hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30am-3.30pm approximately, but you may be offered additional duties and responsibilities outside of these hours.
The school require on and off support throughout the year depending on student intake and staffing needs, so there is always opportunity for contract extension and permanent roles for staff who are a great asset to the school.
