SEN Teaching Assistant - Stoke-on-Trent - Permanent

I am currently recruiting for a specialist SEN School located in the heart of Stoke City. This school provides flexible day and residential placements for students with complex communication and social difficulties typically associated with Asperger's syndrome and Autism. Many will have additional sensory issues and high levels of anxiety that affect their ability to cope in mainstream settings and create barriers to learning.

This school are currently looking for a number of specialist Teaching Assistants who are able to support young people with complex educational needs and are able to differentiate for young people with sensory needs. Ideally, the school are looking for up to 7 support staff to work across the school. As the school caters for young people with complex needs, experience or qualifications relating to moving and handling, personal care, physical intervention or any similar is highly desirable.

This is a relatively new school that has joined a successful multi-academy trust and is looking to expand their staffing team to accommodate for more pupils.

This position is to start from February half term on a permanent basis. The school would like to meet and interview members of staff ideally over the February half term so please apply ASAP.

The SEN teaching assistant would ideally;

  • Have experience working within a setting with individuals with complex needs
  • Have special school experience / experience as a care worker / support worker
  • Have a strong passion for working with young people with special educational needs
  • Have experience using communication aids, e.g. Makaton, Ipads, PECs

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
