SEN Teaching Assistant - Makaton Trained - Greenwich

A vibrant, 3 entry Primary School in Greenwich is seeking a Teaching Assistant with Makaton experience to work with an Autistic child on a full time basis.

The right candidate will have previous experience working in schools or in an education setting, supporting pupils either through one-to-one intervention or in groups.

The school, located in a quiet, affluent area of Greenwich, sets aspirational targets for all pupils and aims to foster an inclusive learning environment where all pupils will be given an opportunity to achieve their potential.

It is a requirement that the right candidate has Makaton training in order to communicate with the child. There are opportunities for further training and development in the job and staff are encouraged to take every opportunity. You should expect to become part of a lovely, welcoming community of staff and pupils who strive to make a difference through inclusivity.

The role:

Support a non-verbal child in KS2.

Make resources, tailored to the child's needs and preferences, such as communication boards.

Support the class teacher to oversee, plan and work with the child in their class to ensure that progress in every area is made.

You will update the Individual Provision Map with specific targets in order to track the child's progress.

You will spend approximately 1 hour a day with the child on a one-to-one intervention session. For the rest of the day you will assist the child among their peers, a class of 30 pupils, to prevent the child from feeling isolated and encouraging interaction.

Working times are 8:20 - 4pm, Monday to Friday.

You must be available to work immediately as trials are taking place from the 12th November.

(You are required to have (or be willing to apply for) a Child Workforce DBS, reqistered on the Update Service, to be considered for the role.)

To apply for this position in Greenwich, please include in your application an updated CV and a brief description of your experience in Makaton and working with children. Alternatively, please call 02075933070 to speak to a consultant, quoting 'Makaton, Greenwich'.

*Please note, due to the high volume of applications, only the most successful candidates will be contacted.
