SEN Teaching Assistant
Job description
We are supporting secondary schools across Bury in recruiting dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join their SEND departments. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about helping young people with additional learning needs and looking to build a long-term career in education.
You will work closely with the school’s SENDCo, supporting students with a range of additional needs including autism, ADHD, social/emotional needs, learning difficulties, and SEMH. There are also opportunities to take on Cover Supervisor duties when required.
Role Overview
- Supporting students with SEND across KS3 and KS4
- Working 1:1 or with small groups under the direction of the SENDCo
- Helping to adapt lesson materials and classroom activities
- Promoting positive behaviour and emotional development
- Assisting teachers in delivering high-quality learning
- Providing support during lessons, transitions, and interventions
- Opportunities to step into Cover Supervisor work when needed
What We are Looking For
- Experience working with children or young people (school-based or transferable)
- Understanding of SEND and a willingness to learn
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Confident, patient, and positive approach
- Ability to manage behaviour in a calm and supportive manner
- Flexible and happy to support across different departments

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
