Science Technician

A thriving and well-regarded mainstream secondary school is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Science Technician to join their dynamic Science Department from September 2025. This is a full-time opportunity, ideal for a candidate with a passion for science and a strong commitment to supporting teaching and learning.

Working closely with a team of specialist teachers and other technicians, the successful candidate will play a key role in preparing and maintaining equipment and materials for practical lessons across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The role also involves ensuring the smooth and safe running of experiments, supporting classroom activities, and maintaining the department’s laboratories and prep rooms in line with health and safety regulations.

This position would suit someone who is well-organised, practical, and enjoys working in a busy, collaborative school environment. Previous experience in a similar role or a background in science—particularly within an educational setting is highly desirable. However, full training can be provided for the right candidate with the necessary skills and enthusiasm.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparing and setting up resources for science lessons

• Assisting in practical sessions where required

• Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring stock levels

• Ensuring safe storage and handling of chemicals and equipment

• Supporting the Science Department in delivering engaging, hands-on learning

The ideal candidate will have:

• A scientific background or relevant technical experience

• A good understanding of lab health and safety (COSHH knowledge is advantageous)

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

• A proactive, flexible approach and a willingness to support colleagues

• A genuine interest in science education
