Pastoral Mentor- Wigan

Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a high performing secondary school within Wigan to recruit for a Pastoral Mentor. This is a full time position to start from April 2018.

Due to the strategic vision of the Senior Leadership team to increase the pastoral support of the pupils, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Pastoral Mentor to join them after the Easter holidays. There is the possibility of a permanent contract being offered dependant upon effectiveness within the role.

Our partner secondary school are seeking a Pastoral Mentor who has previous experience of supporting pupils with special educational needs and their behaviour. Working directly under the Heads of Year, you will be expected to;

  • Provide pastoral support across all year groups.
  • Mentor pupils with any issues that are impacting their learning.
  • Working effectively with the Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator and Learning Support Assistants to ensure all barriers to learning are overcome.
  • To re-integrate any pupils who are temporarily excluded from mainstream classes to understand the consequences of their behaviour on their learning.
  • Liaising with parents and external agencies to ensure additional support is implemented if necessary.

The school was recently praised by Ofsted for the strong team spirit that is felt throughout and that all staff members work effectively together to ensure all pupils are given the best possible opportunity to succeed.

It is located on the outskirts of Wigan town centre which offers excellent accessibility to the surrounding areas of Liverpool, Warrington and Manchester via the nearby motorways.

All applicants will require the appropriate qualification and training for this role. For teacher roles, we require a formally recognised teaching qualification. For Support staff our minimum requirement is GCSE English & Maths (A-C) or equivalent.
