Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support teaching and learning across schools in Wakefield. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, providing high-quality support to students in secondary and specialist settings, leading whole-class sessions, and assisting in planning and delivering lessons.
Key Responsibilities
- Teaching & Learning Support:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver learning activities under the direction of the class teacher.
- Cover classes in the teacher’s absence, ensuring continuity of learning.
- Support individual and small group interventions to raise attainment.
- Assess pupils' progress and provide feedback to teachers.
- Classroom & Behaviour Management:
- Establish and maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Manage pupil behaviour effectively following the school’s policies.
- Provide pastoral support to pupils when necessary.
- Curriculum Support:
- Assist in the planning and delivery of engaging lessons.
- Support teachers in assessing and recording pupil progress.
- Contribute to the development of teaching materials and resources.
- General Duties:
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- Communicate effectively with parents and carers when required.
- Ensure the safeguarding and welfare of all pupils in line with school policies.
Person Specification
Essential:
✔ HLTA qualification or equivalent experience.
✔ Experience working with secondary-aged children in a classroom setting.
✔ Strong understanding of the National Curriculum.
✔ Ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively.
✔ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
✔ A commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
Desirable:
✔ Experience leading whole-class teaching.
✔ Additional qualifications in SEND or EAL support.
✔ First Aid training.
Requirements:
- Right to work in the UK
- At least 2 references covering 24 months of experience
- Child Enhanced DBS on the update service or willing to apply for one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
