Welsh Government’s Covid-Catch-Up scheme is being spent on Maths, English and Science booster programmes and additional one to one teaching assistant tuition. To help progress and attainment following the closures, most secondary schools are putting the funding towards core subjects and more specifically, the KS3-4 pupils who were left without adequate technology, parental support or consistency during the schools lockdown earlier in the year.
Within this job role you will be working closely with the head of the learning support unit and heads of KS3 &4 to aid with the curriculum supporting pupils alongside their normal lessons. As an intervention Teaching Assistant at times these pupils will need require one-to-one to support with preperation for their exams and extra support in their exams in terms of reading and scribing, therefore excellent communication skills are imperative.
The ideal catch up Teaching assistant will be confident in both their subject and developing rapport with pupils who are low ability and those that find concentrating in regular classroom set ups very overwhelming. Those who possess a flare for numeracy and literacy or Science are encouraged to apply. The school are looking for inidividuals who can help raise attainment of pupils who find it hard to engage with the schools programme due to needed additional learning support.
In the past these intervention positions have worked well as graduates across the core subjects (English, Maths & Science)have been able to give expert advice and give more thorough and in depth support to small groups or 1:1 with pupils. Your role will be to support the classroom Teacher and work through any highlighted areas that need extra attention.
Key Requirements for the role:
- Excellent Communication skills
- Core Subject degree is preferred but not essential
- The ability to provide a high level of support by quickly building relationships
- Proactive approach to learning
