EAL Lead
Job description
An ambitious and inclusive mainstream secondary school in Bournemouth is seeking a dynamic and experienced EAL Lead to join their team from September 2025. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of the school’s EAL provision and play a central role in shaping the learning experience of students for whom English is an Additional Language.
This role is perfect for a confident and forward-thinking educator with a passion for language development, inclusion, and whole-school impact.
The Role:
-
Lead the development and delivery of the school’s EAL strategy across all key stages.
-
Manage a small team of support staff to ensure EAL learners receive high-quality, targeted support.
-
Work closely with subject teachers and pastoral staff to monitor progress, identify needs, and implement effective interventions.
-
Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons for EAL students at various levels of proficiency.
-
Oversee assessment, data tracking, and reporting for all EAL learners.
-
Support the integration and wellbeing of newly arrived students, ensuring a smooth transition into school life.
-
Lead CPD and training for staff on EAL best practices and inclusive teaching strategies.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
-
Substantial experience teaching EAL in a secondary school setting.
-
A strong understanding of language acquisition and effective EAL pedagogy.
-
Proven leadership or managerial experience, ideally within an educational setting.
-
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
-
A collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to inclusive education.
-
The ability to inspire, support and challenge both staff and students.
Why Join This School?
-
A supportive and welcoming environment with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
-
A forward-thinking leadership team who value innovation and staff development.
-
Opportunities to shape and grow the EAL department in line with the school’s wider vision.
-
Access to ongoing professional development and leadership training.
-
A vibrant, multicultural student community where your work will make a real difference.
This is more than just a teaching role — it’s a chance to lead a vital area of school life and make a meaningful impact every day. If you’re passionate about supporting EAL learners and ready to step into a leadership position, this could be the ideal next step in your career.
