Job description

A special school situated in Rochdale are currently looking to appoint mainstream Teachers who are looking to transition into specialist education. These positions are commencing as soon as possible and will involve being available for at least 3 days per week.

The setting is a special needs school and currently has 253 pupils on enrolled. The school caters for pupils aged 11-19 and who have a wide range of needs including: multiple learning difficulties, severe learning difficulties and emotional or behavioural difficulties. In its most recent OFSTED inspection the school was graded as 'good' with outstanding features with OFSTED commenting that the pupils social and emotional development were particularly outstanding.

To apply for this position you must be a qualified teacher and be able to demonstrate a genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEN. ideally the teacher will have experience of working within a special school (in any capacity); however this is not essential as long as they can demonstrate a genuine passion and commitment for supporting pupils with SEN.

To be considered for this position the teacher will be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the importance of differentiation and have the ability to assure that learning is accessible to all pupils.

The ideal teacher will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status with extensive experience with pupils with SEN
  • A specialism in working with pupils with SEN (desirable)
  • A commitment to supporting SEN pupils in achieving their optimal potential
  • An understanding of how to adapt lessons to assure that learning is accessible to all pupils
