Special Education Needs Assistant, Kent
A unique opportunity has come up at a lovely academy in Swanley. Multiple positions to work 1:1 and in groups of children both primary and secondary aged with a wide range of additional needs and requirements. This is a permanent full time post to start in September!
The school:
The school is located on beautiful grounds in the picturesque countryside of Kent. The school; itself is a wonderful Victorian building with large spacious class rooms and two sensory gardens, full double tennis court and plenty of parking for driving employees. The school has a primary and secondary site and also has boarding facilities.
The children:
The school works with students with additional needs across the spectrum of SEN, many students are autistic with classes split into classes both verbal and non verbal, they also work with children with severe to moderate learning difficulties and complex needs and physical disabilities including profound and multiple learning difficulties.
The ideal candidate:
- Previous experience working in early years and primary in either mainstream and SEN schools and provisions
- Understanding of autism and how to work with children with autism
- Previous experience of both or either PECS and Makaton is desired but not imperative
- Understanding of TEACHH method is desirable but again not imperative
- DBS registered on the Update Services desirable
- Must be available September for a full time post
- Good understanding or willing to learn proper safeguarding procedures
The role:
Successful candidates will be working as a Teaching Assistant; this involves supporting the class teacher in behaviour management, supporting 1:1 pupils and tailoring the exercise to each pupils specific needs, helping build materials and supporting the school in all general activities, at this site no one day is the same and the duties that are required of you will change as your post at the school develops.
