Teaching Personnel have an exciting opportunity to join the staff of a highly successful college as a Teaching Assistant in Cranborne. This college cater for young people between the ages of 16 - 25 with high functioning Autism, social, emotional and mental and needs along with associated learning needs.
This is a full time position to start as soon as possible.
The roles and responsibilities for the position include:
- To provide additional input (e.g. 1:1 or small groups) where appropriate, delivering intervention programmes
- To support named pupils in improving motivation, confidence and self-esteem
- Under the guidance of the Head of Learning Support, maintain SEN records pertaining to named pupils
- To advise staff about named pupils specific SEN
- To support teachers in implementing specific teaching programmes
- To work pro-actively with all other members of staff to ensure the care and safety of all children
The experience and skills required for this role include:
Essential:
- A good basic education to GCSE level in English and Maths, or the equivalent
- Experience of working with young people or adults that have special needs or mental health difficulties
- The ability to relate well to children and adults and establish positive relationships
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- A basic awareness of policy/legislation relating to safeguarding
- A positive approach and the ability to encourage and enthuse
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Good use of own initiative and the ability to work as part of a team
- Patience and the ability to be calm under pressure
Desirable:
- Further relevant qualifications, (e.g. NVQ, Teaching Assistant Qualification, specific training relating to learning difficulties and/ or disabilities)
- Experience of working with young people in an educational environment
- A working knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies
