Teaching Assistant (Psychology Experience)

The Opportunity

We provide Teaching Assistants as support staff to a number of Pupil Referral Units and Behaviour Provision schools around Tameside, Stockport and South Manchester and we're looking to recruit more people with invaluable experience in areas such as Psychology and Social Care for these roles.

The Role

Pupil Referral Units are an alternative education provision designed to support students with mental health problems, social and emotional needs and challenging behaviours. The quantity of students is much smaller than mainstream schools, and the curriculum is adapted to meet the core subject expectations, with vocational studies available for a more hands on learning experience more suited to the students.

As a Teaching Assistant, your role has 2 main aspects; educational support and behaviour mentoring. Supporting in class you will assist class teachers with students who need extra help or break down in explanation, and help students to remain engaged and focussed. 
Additionally you will be required to support with management of behaviour, mentoring the students with advice on appropriate social interaction and behaviour, and giving general support with emotional well-being. Having an understanding of Psychology, Mental Health and Social and Emotional issues in children / young adults is ideal, as the application of knowledge in these areas will help create results in their development.

You will need to have availability to work Monday to Friday 8.30am-3.30pm, and have a child workforce enhanced DBS which is registered to the update service. * Teaching Personnel are able to support your application if necessary.
