Pastoral Teaching Assistant – Dorchester
Location: Dorchester, Dorset
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Temporary / Ongoing
Pay: Competitive, dependent on experience
Teaching Personnel is working in partnership with a supportive secondary school in Dorchester to recruit a Pastoral Teaching Assistant to provide targeted support to students who require additional pastoral and behavioural guidance throughout the school day.
The Role
- Supporting students who need extra help to remain engaged in lessons
- Working with pupils who are sent out of class to provide structured support and reflection
- Collecting students from lessons and escorting them to appropriate support areas
- Building positive relationships to help students regulate emotions and re-engage with learning
- Working closely with pastoral staff, teachers, and safeguarding leads
The Ideal Candidate
- Experience working with young people in a pastoral, behavioural or support role (education, youth work, care, or similar)
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Able to manage challenging behaviour in a positive and consistent way
- DBS on the Update Service preferred, but Teaching Personnel can support with a new DBS application
