Job description

SEN Support work – Bury

We are looking for a nurturing, enthusiastic and adaptable SEN Support worker to join a specialist provision in Bury.
You will play a vital role in supporting pupils with complex needs, helping them learn, regulate and build confidence within a structured, supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the class teacher with the planning and delivery of tailored learning activities matched to individual SEN needs.
  • Develop strong, supportive relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and confidence.
  • Provide targeted 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with autism, SEMH, communication difficulties, sensory needs or global delays.
  • Follow SEN plans, sensory profiles and behaviour frameworks consistently.
  • Support social development, emotional regulation and independence through structured routines and modelling.
  • Promote a safe, calm and predictable classroom environment.
  • Keep accurate notes, observations and records in line with SEN and safeguarding policies.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEN, SEMH or additional needs.
  • A calm, patient and consistent approach when supporting dysregulation or behavioural challenges.
  • Monday–Friday availability.
  • Basic understanding of SEN strategies, safeguarding and inclusive practice.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a wider support team.

Preferred but Not Essential

  • Experience in specialist provision, PRU, alternative provision or SEN classroom settings.
  • Awareness of sensory processing needs, visual supports and communication strategies.
  • Confidence supporting emotional regulation or de‑escalation.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
