Job description

Not Looking for Full-Time? This Might Suit You | SEND Day-to-Day Cover – East Sussex

This one’s a bit different.

We’re not looking for people who need guaranteed, full-time work.

We’re looking for people who are open, flexible, and happy to step in when schools need it most.


The Reality of This Role

SEND and SEMH schools across East Sussex regularly need last-minute cover.

That means:

  • Calls between 7:00am – 8:00am
  • Same-day work
  • Occasional gaps between bookings
  • Sometimes busy weeks, sometimes quieter ones

If you’re relying on consistent income, this probably isn’t the right fit.

If you’re looking for flexible, ad-hoc work — it can work really well.


What You’d Be Doing

  • Covering Teaching Assistant, Learning Support or teaching roles on a day-to-day basis
  • Supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs
  • Stepping into classrooms and helping keep things steady
  • Working across different schools and environments

Who This Suits

This tends to work really well for people who:

  • Want flexibility over commitment
  • Have other income streams or responsibilities
  • Are happy being on standby for work
  • Can get to schools in East Sussex at short notice
  • Are confident, calm and adaptable

Access to a car is a big advantage for this type of work — but not essential.


What We Need From You

  • A child-only enhanced DBS on the Update Service
  • Or willingness to apply for one immediately
  • The ability to move quickly through vetting
  • Reliability — if you say yes, schools are expecting you

Pay & Details

  • Teaching roles paid to scale
  • Teaching Assistant / LSA roles paid at £92.60 per day
  • Work across East Sussex SEND & SEMH schools
  • Completely flexible, day-to-day opportunities

Final Thought

This isn’t for everyone — and that’s the point.

But if you like the idea of flexible work, variety, and stepping in where you’re needed, it can be a really good fit.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
