National Teaching Assistants’ Day

Celebrating the people who make classrooms work

National Teaching Assistants’ Day (NTAD) is our annual awareness day dedicated to recognising the invaluable contribution teaching assistants make in schools across the UK. From supporting pupil learning to helping teachers deliver great lessons, teaching assistants are essential to every school community. We created this day back in 2012 after we noticed there wasn’t a dedicated day to honour the hard work of teaching assistants in schools.

We wanted a moment in the calendar that schools, pupils, and colleagues could use to say thank you and shine a spotlight on these vital professionals.

Each year, schools across the UK celebrate their TAs and are encouraged to nominate standout staff for our Teaching Assistant of the Year award.

When is National Teaching Assistants’ Day 2026?

National Teaching Assistants’ Day takes place on Friday 25th September 2026.

Why It Matters

Teaching assistants support learning in classrooms every day, from helping pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to encouraging confidence, managing small group work and supporting teachers’ wider planning and practice.

NTAD gives schools a dedicated moment to recognise this contribution and celebrate the difference TAs make.
