SEND & SEMH Opportunities
Job description
Not All Education Roles Feel Like This | SEND & SEMH Opportunities – East Sussex
Most job ads will tell you the same thing.
“Rewarding.”
“Make a difference.”
“Supportive environment.”
Sometimes that’s true. Sometimes it isn’t.
What we can say honestly is this:
The SEND and SEMH schools we work with across East Sussex are looking for people who can bring consistency, patience and a steady presence into the classroom — and in return, they offer environments where that actually matters.
What You’d Be Walking Into
These are settings supporting pupils who may:
- Struggle with emotional regulation
- Find mainstream education difficult
- Need structure, routine and trust to engage
- Respond best to calm, consistent adults
This isn’t about being perfect — it’s about showing up in the right way, consistently.
The Roles
We’re recruiting for a mix of:
- SEND & SEMH Teaching roles
- Teaching Assistant and Learning Support roles
- 1:1 and small group support
- Behaviour and engagement-focused roles
- Short-term, long-term and ongoing opportunities
Across both primary and secondary settings.
Who This Works For
You don’t need a perfect CV.
But you do need to be someone who:
- Stays calm when things get challenging
- Doesn’t take behaviour personally
- Can bring structure and boundaries without escalation
- Builds trust over time, not instantly
- Actually wants to be in this kind of environment
Experience helps — but attitude and consistency matter more.
The Reality
Some days will feel tough.
Some days will feel like you’ve made real progress.
The right people tend to stay — because they can see the impact.
Practical Information
- Roles across East Sussex
- Immediate and upcoming opportunities
- Teaching roles paid to scale
- TA / LSA roles paid at £92.60 per day
- A child-only enhanced DBS on the Update Service is required
If you don’t have one, you’ll need to apply (we’ll support you through it — cost covered by the applicant).
Interested?
If you’re looking for something that feels meaningful, not just busy, this is worth a conversation.
Apply and we’ll talk through what might actually suit you.
All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role. Please see the FAQ’s on the Teaching Personnel website for details.
All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
Teaching Personnel is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We undertake safeguarding checks on all workers in accordance with DfE statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’ this may also include an online search as part of our due diligence on shortlisted applicants.
We offer all our registered candidates FREE child protection and prevent duty training. All candidates must undertake or have undertaken a valid enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Full assistance provided.
