Special Needs Teaching Assistants – Hampshire Area
(Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough, Hook)
Are you passionate about supporting children and young people with additional needs? A number of specialist schools across Hampshire are currently seeking caring, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to work as Special Needs Teaching Assistants (SEN TAs). Positions are available in and around Winchester, Andover, Basingstoke, Farnborough, and Hook.
About the Role
Special Needs Teaching Assistants play a vital role in supporting pupils with a range of additional needs. Working closely with teachers and other support staff, SEN TAs help pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop key life skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
Types of Schools and Needs
There are two main types of specialist schools in which these roles are based:

SEN (Special Educational Needs) Schools
These schools cater for children and young people with a variety of learning needs. Pupils may have:-
Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)

Physical disabilities
-
Moderate to severe learning difficulties
-
Communication and interaction difficulties
-
Complex medical needs
In these settings, the role often includes supporting learning activities, helping with personal care, using visual and sensory aids, and working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) Schools
These schools support children who experience difficulties managing their emotions or behaviour in mainstream settings. Pupils may have diagnoses such as ADHD, attachment disorders, trauma-related needs, or anxiety disorders.In SEMH schools, staff focus on building trust, promoting emotional regulation, and supporting social development. The environment is structured but highly flexible, and a calm, consistent, and resilient approach is essential.

Who Should Apply?
You do not need to be a qualified teacher or teaching assistant to apply. Experience in any of the following is beneficial:

Working with children or young people
-
Care work or support work
-
Health or social care roles
-
Youth work or mentoring
-
Experience with autism, learning disabilities, or behaviour support
Above all, applicants should be patient, resilient, and genuinely committed to helping children and young people thrive.
Important Requirements

An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
